Segments allow you to divide your LED strip into multiple sections. Each section can run different effects, directions, or audio-reactive patterns independently. This gives you more control over how your lighting behaves.

Open the Segments Section

Launch the App
Open the HYPNOTIK App on your smartphone.

Navigate to Segments
Go to the Segments section from the controller interface.

Default Segment
You will see Segment 0, which is automatically created by default. This first segment covers the beginning portion of the LED strip and can be renamed or adjusted.

Create the First Segment

Set the LED Range
Define the Stop LED (End Point) for the segment. This determines where the first segment will end on the LED strip.

Rename the Segment (Optional)
You can assign a custom name to the segment for easier identification.

Configure Segment Options
You can adjust several parameters to customize how effects behave within the segment.

Grouping

Grouping controls how many physical LEDs act as one virtual LED.

  • Default value: 1
  • When set to 2, the effect will control two LEDs at the same time.
  • The grouped LEDs behave as a single virtual LED.

This is useful for creating wider visual effects or reducing animation speed.

Spacing

Spacing creates gaps between active LEDs.

  • Default value: 0 (no spacing)
  • When set to 1, every other LED will remain off

This effectively reduces the number of active LEDs and creates a patterned look.

Offset

Offset shifts where an effect begins within the segment.

Normally, effects start at the first LED and end at the last LED of the segment.

When an offset value is applied:

  • The effect begins further along the strip
  • The skipped LEDs will appear at the end of the animation cycle

Reverse Direction

Some effects move from the start LED to the end LED.

Enabling Reverse Direction flips the direction so the animation runs from end to start.

Mirror Effect

Mirror mode divides the segment into two equal parts.

The effect runs in opposite directions on each side, creating a mirrored visual pattern.

This option works best with effects that include directional movement.

Add Additional Segments

Once the first segment is configured, you can create more segments.

Add a New Segment

  1. Tap Add Segment.
  2. The Start LED will automatically be assigned based on the previous segment.
  3. Enter the Stop LED to define where this segment ends.

Rename the Segment (Optional)

You can give the segment a custom name.

If the name field is empty, the controller will automatically assign a default name:

Segment n

Where n represents the segment number, starting from 0.

Example Setup

For example, if you have a 150-LED strip:

  • Segment 0: LEDs 1–50 (Audio Reactive Bars)
  • Segment 1: LEDs 51–100 (Wave Effect)
  • Segment 2: LEDs 101–150 (Color Pulse)

Each segment can run different effects, colors, or audio patterns independently.

Tips

  • Ensure that segments do not overlap in LED ranges.
  • Use grouping for wider visual effects on dense LED strips.
  • Mirror mode works best with symmetrical lighting installations.
  • Offset can help create more dynamic animation patterns.
