Section: Basic Hardware Setup

Overview

The Hypnotik FX controller has a physical push button on the enclosure. It provides basic control of the device — power toggle, random colour, and factory reset — without needing a phone, computer, or network connection.

Button Gestures

Gesture Hold Duration Action
Short Press Less than 600 ms Toggle lights ON / OFF
Long Press Approx. 1 second (≥ 600 ms) Set a random colour
Ultra Long Press 10 seconds or more Factory Reset — clears all settings
A press shorter than 50 ms is ignored (debounce — prevents accidental triggers from bumps or vibration).

Short Press — Toggle ON / OFF

A quick tap toggles all LEDs on or off.

  • If the lights are on → they turn off.
  • If the lights are off → they turn on (restoring the previous effect and brightness).

Short press for power toggle

Use case: Quick power control without opening the app.

Long Press (~1 second) — Random Colour

Press and hold the opt button for approximately 1 second, then release.

  • The device immediately switches to a new random colour.
  • Each long press picks a different random colour.

Use case: Quickly cycle through colour options without opening the app.

Ultra Long Press (10 seconds) — Factory Reset

Press and hold the opt button for the full 10 seconds, then release.

Warning: This permanently deletes all settings — WiFi credentials, presets, paired remotes, LED configuration, and sync settings. This action cannot be undone.

After the reset:

  • The device clears all configuration and reboots.
  • The HYPNOTIK-XXXX WiFi access point becomes active.
  • Reconnect and reconfigure from scratch.

Ultra long press for factory reset

Use case: Full reset when the device is misconfigured or being repurposed.

Tips

  • For the 10-second factory reset, count slowly in your head while holding — release only after reaching 10.
  • The LED strip may change state at the 1-second mark (random colour) — you can release here or continue holding to reach the 10-second factory reset.
  • There is no intermediate action between 1 second and 10 seconds. Releasing between these times performs the random colour action.
